This is a blog tracking the life of the MKPA’s (Milton Keynes Play Association) creative playboat project funded by the Big Lottery Fund. The playboat the ‘Funion Bargee’ , a 60 foot narrowboat, was launched on the Grand Union canal on the 22nd July 2009.

The idea behind the project is that the Funion Bargee will cruise the Grand Union canal from Slapton in Bedfordshire to Gayton in Northamptonshire, spending the majority of its time within Milton Keynes, delivering play opportunities to children and young people.

The project will open up the opportunities for children and young people to learn more about the canal, its traditions, the wildlife and how to play safely at the water margin.

The project is currently funded for 5 years. Communities and organisations will be encouraged to use the Funion Bargee for activities, meeting spaces etc, to help it become a sustainable part of play in MK and the surrounding areas.
